An old-established maker of horse-drawn steam fire engines, Waterous is
credited with delivering the first gasoline-powered fire engine in the
United States. Sold to Radnor, Pa. Fire Department, it had two engines, one
for propelling and one for driving the pump. It was of forward-control
layout, but in 1907 Waterous introduced a 4cylinder fire engine with engine
under a large hood, and this was made in small numbers at least until 1923.
The company still makes pumps today, but no longer any vehicles.
