Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. – City of Industry,
California – 1914-present - It was 1914 and the world was changing: In
America, the sleeping industrial giant was about to awaken. The modern era
had begun. Although roads were few and far between, H.C. and E.W. Bennett
knew that over the road transportation would become the lifeblood of the
United States. Armed with this foresight, they founded Utility Trailer
Manufacturing Company, America's original manufacturer of truck trailers in
the West. Although their beginnings were humble, their philosophy was not.
From the beginning, they were determined to build the finest trailers in the
world. And to continually refine them with design innovation and engineering
advances. All while providing unparalleled customer service at affordable
prices. Quite an order. Today, over eighty-five years later, that order has
been delivered. And more. Utility's reputation for quality, durability,
design, innovation, and customer satisfaction are unparalleled in the
industry. The famous Utility reefer, for example, is consistently rated #1
in America. In fact, Utility pioneered, engineered, designed, and tested the
lightweight, high-capacity trailers that are today's standard. We also
developed the patented Barrier Door®, our unique cold flow floor design, the
shockless pintle hook, a completely water-proof electrical system,
incidentally one of the most copied trailer innovations of all time. Not to
mention the use of polyurethane foam in refrigerated trailers, and the
American introduction and manufacture of curtain-sided trailers - the famous
Utility Tautliners®. These are just a few examples. As a matter of course,
Utility Trailer has developed more "firsts" than any other trailer
manufacturer in North America.
