The Rehberger was an assembled make produced in small numbers for sale
mainly in the Newark area. The range extended from 1 Y. to 5&7-tonners with
Buda engines, Brown-Lipe or Fuller transmissions and Timken axles. The 1925
3-ton chassis was available in bus form, with the engine set back, air
springs at the front, a lower frame, pneumatic tires and disc wheels. The
5-tonner had a 2-speed rear axle, giving 8 forward speeds in all. Rehberger
increasingly concentrated on bus chassis from 1933 onwards, and apparently
produced these in a variety of wheelbase lengths until 1937 or 1938. These
found a market among smaller bus operators. During the war years they
switched to heavy industrial trailers, many for the US Navy and
shipbuilders. The firm had plans to reenter the truck field in the early
postwar years with a 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 ton range aimed at the export market.
Apparently this scheme was never realized.
