Thomas H. Monahan & Sons was a
blacksmith shop founded in Providence in 1901. The father was a
veterinarian, sons Joseph and John were wheelwright and clerk, respectively.
In 1902 they became the Monahan Vehicle Company and proceeded to build
wagons. By 1908, however, their city directory reference changed to "wagons
and automobiles," which was continued through 1915. In 1917 there was
another name change to Providence Body Company and their role now was "motor
truck body builders." And it was in this vein that the company continued for
the next two and a half decades. What automobiles Monahan built were
doubtless to custom order.
