Kold-Hold Mfg. Co. 735 Hazel St. Lansing, MI
R.E. Olds founded Kold-Hold Manufacturing Company in 1932 to develop a
system for refrigerating truck trailers. The system provided a special
insulated trailer and fixed-based refrigeration system that coupled to the
trailer to cool the trailer and its entire contents. This pioneering system
enabled a load to stay cool for several days after it was disconnected from
the fixed system. REO Speed Wagon trucks were used for development and
demonstration of the system. REO sold the successful company to James R.
Tranter in 1937, he was a former manager of Kold-Hold, and he renamed it
Tranter Corp. in 1954.
