American Metal Products of Detroit - 1917-present –
Primarily a seat manufacturer, AMP created a compact prototype in 1948 and
shopped it around to some of their clients hoping to secure a production
contract. Kaiser-Frazer expressed an interest in it and secured a government
loan based on the AMP prototype. The resulting car was re-styled by Howard
Darrin and turned into the Henry J. SIA# 177 pp10 (also from: Kaiser-Frazer:
the Last Onslaught on Detroit by Richard Langworth) AMP is now the Lear
Corporation.
