The Albert Buick Co., a long time Buick dealer, being located at
Eisenhower Blvd. of Johnston, started to offer station wagon conversions
in the mid-eighties. These Buick-based first call vehicles were
remodelled with a rear overhang extension and a vinyl-padded high
fiberglass roof.
The base model was named "Regal D´Elegance" and featured a slightly
raised top. The #2 doors were left stock and draperies were added. The
rear side windows were blinded out and covered with a vinyl roof and
landau bows.
The more expensive "Alberter d´Elegance" showed a longer rear extension
and a raised roof. An electric divider was installed between the driver
and the rear compartment.
Alberter 1st call conversions are easily identified by their extremely
square-resembling rear doors.
In 1989, Alberter offered similar bodies on Cadillac and Lincoln
chassis. Additionally, they sold full size hearses, produced by Collins/
Miller-Meteor.
When Mr. Albert, the founder of Alberter Coach, retired, there was no
successor. That´s why they closed its doors after some years in the
early nineties.
